That spike of irritation might be showing you where the line is.
The request was probably small.
A quick favour. A last-minute change. One more thing added to the pile. Someone assuming you would adjust, absorb, smile, manage, flex. Again.
And then your body answered before your mouth did.
Tight chest. Sharp irritation. Internal eye-roll. That private little “are you kidding me?”
Interesting, isn’t it?
Because sometimes you do not know you have a boundary until someone bashes into it.
Not every irritation needs a speech. Not every frustration needs a meeting. Not every crossed line needs fireworks.
But it does need your attention.
Otherwise, you do what you have always done. Smooth it over. Make it easier for them. Make it harder for you. Call it fine when it is very much not fine.
That is one of the quiet ways power slips.
Not because someone took it.
Because you noticed the line… and then talked yourself out of respecting it.
The next move doesn’t have to be dramatic.
It just needs to be honest.
What did that reaction show you?
