How To Get Out Of Survival Mode And Build New Habits In Your Life [PART THREE with Videos]

Together over this three-part series of emails, we have explored a checklist of survival mode symptoms plus 10 Practical Tips to take action so that you can change course and regain control over your life.

I know that these tips work because I use them myself as do many of my clients. Which means that if you have started implementing any of these tips, you will be building new habits and beginning the process of stepping into a new life for yourself. Well done!! Deliberate, consistent actions will make a real difference.

Check out this simple, impactful message from me which you can use as a reminder – every single day.

>>>Your Choice

To round off this kick survival mode out the door email series, I have two other really useful resources for you.

First: A simple strategy to reduce any anxiety or worry you may be experiencing. Take the following steps:

  • Find something you can tap your heartbeat out with – a pen, piece of cutlery, your fingers, chopstick, anything will do
  • Pay full attention to your heartbeat, making sure to tap along at the same rate it is beating at
  • Notice that your heartbeat is slowing down and match it with your tapping
  • Experience the full power of changing your state

What you will notice is that by acknowledging rather than denying the anxiety/worry you are able to explore the feeling and come to understand that it is simply a feeling. Once you relax into the feeling, you are able to make the choice about what you do with it and how you experience it.

This Is A Very Powerful Tool!

Living in survival mode means getting caught up in present to future thinking – imagining and reimagining what can and might go wrong. Holding committee meetings in your head about every single small decision. Give yourself permission to gently explore these feelings, know that they are just feelings and get on with the process of igniting change for yourself.

The second resource is this TED talk by Tim Ferriss  titled Why You Should Define Your Fears Instead Of Your Goals.  I love the approach Tim takes encouraging us to turn our fears around so that they work for you rather than again you.  He presents a useful process for managing fears by identifying what they are and utilising positive energy to work out how to best deal with them. Obviously, once you have solved the issue you are fearful about it has less of a strangle hold on you.

I know that these powerful resources, along with those in previous 2 emails, are a useful toolkit to support you on your journey stepping out of survival mode. Imagine building new habits and creating a new life for yourself – one where you experience calm positivity, joy and laughter and where you are able to be fully present and focused in each moment?

A reminder: Please be kind to yourself as you travel this new pathway. Celebrate the small steps and every single achievement you make. Celebrate LOUD and LONG!!
