5 Powerful Questions I Use To Increase My Performance And Self Development

My days are always filled with a combination of Bad Work – bit mind numbing however needs to be done stuff that contributes to the administration of my business; and Good Work – safe and comfortable, easy to do and could be considered to be in my job description; and Great Work – where I am in the flow, passionate and excited about what I am doing and have an awesome mix of fear and excitement because I am stepping outside my comfort zone and excitement because what I am doing makes my heart sing and because it matters.

When you think about your own days, they are likely to be a combination of the same three things – Bad Work, Good Work and Great Work.

Right now, I have an opportunity to leverage an international relationship to put the finishing, tailored touches to a program which I know will make a huge difference to everyone who signs up. What is means is that I need to be In The Flow doing Great Work hour after hour and day after day as I design my Deliberate Leadership program for the market and work with my team to set up the landing pages and social media marketing etc etc. So, so exciting for me and as you can imagine, totally requires that I am doing Great Work.

I want to share with you the self-coaching I do to Increase my performance while also bring self-awareness and growth that ensures I get stuff done.

There are 5 Powerful Questions that I ask myself and they are:

What’s on my mind? Helps me get to the core of the issue – the stuff that really matters FAST
What’s the REAL challenge here for ME? Asking the question about yourself puts you in the spotlight and it is more powerful in moving you closer to what the real challenge is. Remember there is likely to be more than one challenge for you.
And what else is a challenge here for me? Your first answer will not be the only one or the best one so ask this question of yourself several times – just like peeling back the layers of an onion.
Knowing what the real challenge is here for me, what do I really want? Focuses in on what you really want to come out of the situation and the challenge. What you would really like to see happening? You can also ask yourself the question And What Else? (AWE) here. Then ask AWE again several more times to get in deeper to identify what you really want.
What is most useful here for me to do great work to overcome the challenges? This identifies what your actions are so that you can move forward, shifting your focus, your energy and your passion so that you are spending much more time in the Great Work Zone.

This process is well worth working through and can be very easily applied to all areas of your life. I find slowing myself down to step through these questions gives me greater focus on exactly what I want to achieve.

Embrace the day.
